Often when working with clients on personalization, I get asked to display an image or a message for such a unique and specific segment of our audience that I know the reach will be minimal, and the amount of work required for the design team and content team does not outweigh the results from the implementation.
Look beyond what the client is asking, and consider different ways to reach the same audience with that message.
Did a user enter the site from a campaign tied to a region or topic?
Can you use Geo-IP to infer a user is from a specific region?
If you have profiling or pattern matching configured, is there a way to create a new segment to meet the client's request.
In previous projects, only defining an audience based on the initial request has led to minimal or no reach. By stacking personalization rules with OR statements, you increase the reach potential of that messaging and can sometimes deliver results in ways the client hadn't considered in the initial request.
