How to Tag Pages with Profile Scores in Bulk

When I was first experimenting with profiles and pattern cards in Sitecore's Marketing Control Panel, everything seemed overwhelming to me. I kept asking myself, "How am I going to scale this to all of the pages" and "If only I had known all of this before I started building the site."

If you are in a situation where a site or a section of a site has already been built out, and you are looking to tag a large section of pages with a profile that has already been created, luckily there is a quick way to tag all of these pages at once, in one fell swoop.

Familiarize Yourself With "Search Operations" and "Search Filters"

Content Editor provides users with some powerful tools that aren't completely obvious at first glance. I went years without knowing this capability existed in the platform.

  1. Open Content Editor

  2. Click the Search Icon in the content pane to the right

  3. Select the dropdown arrow to the left of the search box that appears

  4. Expand "Search Filters"

  5. Expand "Search Operations"

These two search enhancements will make your everyday editing life easier, and when applying a profile score in bulk.

How to Apply a Profile Score in Bulk

Using the steps above, select filter your search to only include items that you want to tag with a profile score. This can be done by:

  1. Using the Search filter to limit your results view to a section or template or tag

  2. These filters can stack on top of each other to continue to refine your results

  3. Once you are confident the results incudes only the items (pages/documents) you want to tag with a profile score, select "Apply Profile Score" from the Search Operations section. Note: Profiles and Profile Cards must already be configured in Marketing Control Panel

  4. Select the Profile Cards and Values you want to assign to the page/document

  5. Select Apply.

Limitations and Drawbacks

While this is a quick way to apply a profile score to many pages at once, it does modify the most recent version of the pages, which could affect Version History if that is configured in your instance.
